AN UNUSUAL TYPE OF CALENDAR

What you see is a vocabulary calendar on which students of all levels can record 30 or 31 words they learnt in a particular month. More specifically, they choose the words they consider more useful or difficult to remember and provide an example sentence of their own.

Most importantly, this way of consolidating vocabulary results in personal involvement (through the choice of the words or phrases to be included) and encourages learners to use the dictionary or the Internet to verify the proper use of each vocabulary item. Moreover, students need to fill in a sentence every single day of the month, which ensures not only personal but also continuous involvement in the learning process.

The phrases on the above July's calendar were compiled by George, an adult learner of C2 level , after he had completed reading the worldwide bestseller 'The Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. See also his blog post about this book:

You can find sheets like the one in the picture on this page of Oxford University Press (after becoming a member of the Oxford Teachers' Club):

Finally, Alice, a learner of B1+ level, has decided to write her calendars on her blog from now on and this is her post for the words she has learnt in August.
